Twitter Traffic Map Of NEW YORK

Art map master Eric Fischer is back to make cartographic sense of all that location data you’re giving away for free on Twitter. This is New York, with New Yorkers’ trips routed and their geotag density mapped out in “10000 points, 30000 vectors.” What do we learn? Broadway is “the spine.” Well, that does make sense.

This is the part where, depending on your personal sensibilities, you either (a) ponder issues in NYC transport and connectivity or (b) get ooh-ahh-mesmerized by how that thing looks like a cluster of tree branches or maybe a neuron or something else Fractal and start getting all existential on us.

Other metropolitan areas of Fischer’s interested also seem to clustter around major roads and transit ways, except for when they don’t.
