The roof of a new ice hockey rink collapsed in Námestovo, Slovakia. Former NHL player Richard Zednik and some kids were skating on the ice, just moments before the accident. Luckily, they’ve escaped in time, before the roof came crashing down under the weight of ice and snow.
In a bizarre stroke of luck, crash barriers around the perimeter of the playing area were tall enough and strong enough to support the load that landed on them.
The barriers formed tunnels so everyone managed to exit safely and no one was hurt.
Zednik already cheated death in the past. He is famous for having survived a skate slash to the throat in 2008 while playing for the Florida Panthers. Someone out there must really like this guy…
