British style and fashion – from Olympic Games to Buckingham Palace

When the parents of seven-year-old Mia checked their twitter account, they were more than flabbergasted: Olympic gold medal winner Rebecca Adlington wrote a message to the little girl to wish her luck for her swimming gala.
Mia was getting prepared for her swimming competition when her parents decided to ask Rebecca Adlington if she could send a little message for their daughter as a motivation. Surprisingly, the gold medal winner answered and sent her best wishes for the gala – and indeed it worked: Mia gave her best and won three medals – one gold and two silver medals are now property of the seven-year-old girl!

Rebecca Adlington – a class of her own

Sure, Rebecca Adlington, who is the first British winner of two Olympic gold medals in swimming since 1908, must have been the best inspiration for little Mia. Yesterday, Rebecca was invited to Buckingham Palace with other Paralympic and Olympic medallists as an honour for their success under the Union Jack. But although having won two bronze medals this summer during the 2012 British Games, she saw walking in her High Heels as another possible Olympic discipline. Nevertheless she seemed very lucky that she just happened upon KG by Kurt Geiger when she went shopping for this event. Rebecca Adlington, who was born in 1989, already won two gold medals at the games in 2008. During these competitions, she broke the longest standing 800m swim record of all times which had been set by Janet Evans in 1988.

Apart from Rebecca Adlington, 225 other Olympic participants met in Buckingham Palace to celebrate their successes and chat about their time at the biggest event in the world. Unfortunately, we will now have to wait two years until the 2014 Winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia.

Hopefully, new stories like that of Mia and Rebecca will have happened until then and new role models will be newly discovered at the biggest athletic Games worldwide.
